Our history

The Beginning: A Dream, a Journey, a New Home

Kathy and I, David Baez, emigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream, leaving behind our loved ones to start anew in Sunrise, Florida. Like many immigrants, we couldn’t continue our professional careers in International Commerce and Business Administration, despite years of experience. Instead, we began working across various fields, including building construction, cleaning, and property maintenance services—gaining hands-on expertise that later inspired us to build a trusted, service-driven business rooted in hard work and dedication.

1998

Building Momentum: Growth Through Dedication and Dual Roles

After gaining experience, I joined Environ Condominiums II in Lauderhill, Florida, as Maintenance Support and was quickly promoted to Chief Maintenance Manager of its 8-building property. I also worked nights in construction and performed repairs for residents. Meanwhile, Kathy worked independently providing maid services, earning trust through quality and attention to detail. Her excellent customer service led to over 40 loyal clients, many of whom remained with her for more than 12 years.

Laying the Foundation: The Birth of K&D Service Values

We officially founded our first family business, K&D Cleaning and Maintenance Services, Inc., with a clear mission: to deliver personalized, high-quality service with attention to details overlooked by others due to poor supervision. Recognizing that our success stemmed from customer care and excellence, we built the company on strong pillars rooted in family values and a culture of commitment—establishing a service philosophy that set us apart in the cleaning and maintenance industry.

Growth Through Purpose: Evolving with Our Clients

We expanded our services to meet clients’ growing needs for on-demand repairs and custom solutions within shrinking budgets. Along the way, we identified ways to improve the industry: adopting higher-quality products, refining procedures, and investing in new equipment to protect our team’s health and well-being. We emphasized doing things right—with care and precision—and nurtured a strong sense of teamwork rooted in our family business culture. This evolution helped us grow while staying true to our values.

Resilience in Change: Expanding Horizons

During a national economic crisis, we knew we had to evolve to stay competitive. After analyzing the market, we expanded our condominium maintenance services into new sectors. We entered Foreclosure Cleanup and REO Property Preservation, later offering tailored services for Government Buildings, Clinics, Schools, and Retail Stores. This strategic diversification allowed us to meet broader market needs and boost company income and profitability by 37% in just one year—proving that growth often begins where adaptation meets opportunity.

A New Identity: Strength Through Specialization

K&D Cleaning & Maintenance Services Inc. evolved into K&D Service Group, expanding through strategic alliances in plumbing, electricity, carpentry, repairs, and remodeling. This growth enabled us to operate at greater commercial and residential scale. We restructured the company into two business units: Commercial – Building Maintenance and Residential – Home Improvements. Each division was assigned specific goals, specialized teams, and the resources needed to deliver focused, high-quality solutions. It was a bold transformation built on clarity, capability, and customer-centric service.

Innovating to Lead: Technology as a Catalyst

Despite ongoing economic challenges, K&D Service Group continues to grow exponentially by asking the right question: how can we deliver more value? We found the industry stagnant—resistant to change, outdated in processes. Our answer: embrace technology and modernize operations. We’re now focused on three strategic goals—strengthening long-term client relationships, attracting new ones, and elevating the industry’s service standards. Through innovation and improved methodologies, we aim to lead the next transformation in maintenance and improvement services.

With a strong reputation and loyal client base established over two decades, K&D Service Group focused on strategic geographic and service expansion. The company began servicing a broader range of properties, including large condominium associations, retail plazas, and government facilities across Broward and Palm Beach counties. By strengthening operational structures and implementing standardized service protocols, K&D was able to maintain quality while increasing service volume. This year marked the transition from a family-led operation into a scalable, professionally managed organization—without losing the personal touch that defined its beginnings.

Professionalization & Operational Modernization

As the company grew, so did the complexity of operations. K&D Service Group invested heavily in training programs, OSHA-compliant safety procedures, and modern equipment to maintain high standards and ensure team well-being. Internally, new administrative systems were implemented to improve scheduling, accounting, and client communications. This professionalization phase positioned K&D as a trusted partner not only for residential and commercial clients but also for institutional property managers seeking reliable, accountable maintenance solutions. The company closed the decade with its strongest operational structure to date.
